Three reasons why you have more energy with Oshun electrolytes
Share
In the nutrition world, “energy” is a funny term. Officially, foods and beverages can claim their product provides “energy” when it delivers energy from calories (carbs, fats and proteins), or sometimes from caffeine. So where does that leave Oshun, a calorie-free electrolyte concentrate, when so many of you tell us it improves their energy?
Toeing the official line, Oshun contributes to “normal energy-yielding metabolism” and “normal muscle function” thanks to the presence of ionic magnesium and potassium. These are vague technical terms. What do they really mean when it comes to adding 4-8 pumps of Oshun to your daily water intake?
Three ways Oshun improves energy levels
1. Enhancing ATP Energy Production:
Magnesium is a cofactor in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including those involved in ATP (adenosine triphosphate) synthesis. ATP is the body’s primary energy currency. Using the ATP pathway, magnesium helps to convert the food we ingest into usable energy. Without sufficient magnesium, this process slows, leading to fatigue. So while Oshun does not directly raise your energy levels like a caffeine stimulant might, it allows you to extract more energy from the food you consume.
2. Regulating Muscle and Nerve Function:
Potassium maintains proper electrical gradients across cell membranes. This is crucial for nerve signalling and muscle contractions: it's the pathway between your brain and your muscles. This balance ensures muscles work efficiently - think of it as keeping the body’s “electrical wiring” intact. Low potassium can cause weakness or cramps, draining energy by making movement harder. From this point of view, Oshun keeps your muscles flowing, which may be the reason why you feel able to achieve more each day.
3. Supporting Hydration and Oxygen Delivery:
Both magnesium and potassium help regulate fluid balance. Magnesium aids water retention in cells, while potassium prevents excessive sodium buildup. Proper hydration optimises blood volume, ensuring oxygen and nutrients reach muscles and organs efficiently. Dehydration, even mild, saps energy fast. Newcomers to Oshun may think that they consume enough sodium already and do not need any more electrolytes – but in fact, the potassium in Oshun will help their bodies better manage sodium levels. This is the main reason why Oshun is in a totally different class to solid salts such as Celtic Sea Salt or Himalayan salt, which should remain firmly in the seasoning cupboard.
Bottom line
We’re not sure that telling anyone that Oshun “contributes to a normal energy-yielding metabolism” is all that helpful. So we’ll just simplify it: Oshun provides a feeling of flowing, stable energy. And that's awesome.
