How to tell if I need electrolytes?
Share
“Do I really need electrolytes? Aren’t they just for exercise?” If you’ve asked yourself these questions, you are not alone. The truth is that everyone needs electrolytes in varying degrees, depending on many factors such as your physiology, environment, diet, stress levels, physical activity and more.
So how can you tell if you need electrolytes?
Let’s simplify this with our quick self-check to tell whether you have an electrolyte imbalance. If you were to visit a nutritionist, you may be asked to perform this check with them.
If you answer YES to two or more of the following questions, it is likely that you suffer from insufficient electrolyte levels:
- Do you have a dry mouth, even when drinking water?
- Do sparkling beverages feel more refreshing than still?
- Do you suffer from regular muscle aches and/or cramps?
- Do you feel lethargic, generally have low energy?
- Do you find yourself craving salty snacks and foods?
- Do you suffer from constipation or diarrhea, or often fluctuate from one to another?
If you answered YES twice or more, you are likely to benefit from adding Oshun’s Electrolyte Concentrate to your daily drinking habits.
How do electrolytes work?
Electrolytes are minerals with an electric charge, they create a gradient across our cell membranes that directs where fluid goes in our body. We rely on this mechanism to control blood pressure, digestive transit, blood sugar regulation and energy levels to name a few things they’re important for.
Sweating, high stress, exercising, caffeine intake, drinking lots of water, drinking filtered water, hormonal changes, even breastfeeding all increase our need for electrolytes whilst also decreasing the amounts we have in our body.
How to fix your electrolyte imbalance
If the above sounds like you, we would recommend the following protocol:
Drink filtered water?
Add 3 pumps of Oshun per litre in all the water you drink.
Drink mineral or tap water?
Add 2 pumps of Oshun per litre in all the water you drink.
Happy hydrating!
